Amazon sent me McAfee, and I immediately deleted Norton from my laptop and installed McAfee.
Note: This does NOT come with a CD! You MUST download it and key in the code (that you are buying) to enable it.
The installation could have been better. Hooking up to a personal McAfee account took some doing (and redoing) and downloading the program took three tries before it was successful. (I have 33Mbps download so it wasn't my internet that was the issue.)
When I finally got it downloaded, I immediately started the scans, which were quite a bit faster than Norton. It found the traditional tracking cookies, but it also found a TROJAN that Norton had missed!
(Looking back, the computer HAD been running a little slower than normal...but not anymore!)
I have noticed that the computer runs faster with McAfee than with the Norton 360...but, I thought, it might be because of that trojan it found...
So, I installed it on another laptop...(This gives you coverage for three PCs.)
Same issue downloading. This time, upon first scan, it did not find anything but the traditional tracking cookies.
This computer ALSO ran faster once this was installed (and I had Norton removed). So, my opinion is that McAfee runs FASTER than Norton. This is important for me, as I run big complex programs for work and school (and fun).
I installed it on my desktop, and this time, it downloaded quicker. Installation was easier than the others, and like the second laptop, it did not find anything but the tracking cookies. Now my desktop, which I run lots of photo and video editing software on, runs smoother than before.
The bells and whistles are about the same. It saves your passwords for you (this is a biggie for me), and you can access your account from any computer.
My three computers show that McAfee:
1) found a trojan that Norton missed
2) runs faster on both laptops and a desktop than Norton, and doesn't slow the computer down as much as Norton.
That, plus I think this is cheaper than Norton (at least it is today), makes this a good choice for your security needs.

With Cloud Storage I always have felt that it's part of a scheme to get users on the hook for staying with one particular AV brand so I routinely make my own back-ups to external HDDs. Suffice to say that I feel the Total Protection package more than sufficient for my households needs.
This bundle does NOT include an installation DVD. Inside the package you're given instructions on accessing McAfee's website where you'll need to create an account (this is not optional) and enter a product code found on the card inside.
Total size of the application download is about 500MB so be prepared for what could be a potentially lengthy download. Be aware that after you install the suite you're in for another download and install as the software updates the out-of-date virus definitions. All in all the download, installation, and update process was smooth and relatively fast.

Coming from Norton Security the first thing I noticed is that McAfee performs quite a bit faster than Norton's product in my experience using the same machines. My desktop PC has a SSD which contains the OS and other critical files and McAfee absolutely burned through a full, deep scan in less than 15-minutes. My larger hard-drives took considerably longer, however, again I noticed that scanning is quite a bit faster than with Norton's product.
The user-interface (UI) on McAfee's Total Protection is spartan; and I mean that in a good way. One the main menu you're given an immediate visual status of your PC and its current state. A large color-coded banner displays the status; below four (4) main windows display the particulars and follow the green, yellow, red color code:
♦ Virus and Spyware Protection
♦ Web and Email Protection
♦ McAfee Updates
♦ Subscription status
Three (3) smaller tiles provide access to deeper menus:
♦ Data Protection: Includes access to File Lock and Shredder
♦ PC and Network Tools:
- Home Network Defense which visually displays your network and any devices accessing your network
- QuickClean which deletes user-selected unnecessary files including temporary files, file fragments and more
- Vulnerability Scanner

Thankfully McAfee has kept annoyances to an absolute minimum. You will be initially notified of major activities but can opt out of any future similar notices right from the notice popup. For example you will get a notice that McAfee has downloaded and successfully installed current definitions; a small checkbox on the popup disables future popups for the same notification. Easy and intuitive and best of all you don't have to go diffing in a settings menu to make that change.

WHAT MCAFEE GOT RIGHT:

(+) Lightweight. For many years AV companies bloated their software to try and spread their tentacles into every aspect of your PC and online life. McAfee thankfully doesn't try to encroach beyond what it needs to to protect your PC. The software is nimble and does and excellent job.
(+) Spartan. The UI is easy to understand and offers a complete status-update at a glance.
(+) Annoyances. Again, the annoying "pay attention to me!" popups are kept to an absolute minimum.
(+) Features. Total Protect is feature rich and those features work really well. Even PC novices can use the deeper feature like File Lock to encrypt their most important files.

WHAT COULD BE BETTER:

(-) Overreach. There are hints of McAfee trying to overreach. For example at installation you're prompted to input your credit card information in order to turn on auto-renewal. I'm willing to bet that auto-renewal wouldn't be for a discounted price either. You can ultimately opt-out but I still feel this is worth mentioning.
(-) Media. Since there's no media in the package installing this application requires a large download. This was not an issue for me but I know that not every area has high-speed internet available.

2) McAfee Total Protection Beats Out Norton - I installed McAfee Total Protection 2015 on my home PC and two laptops removing Norton Security in the process. In the brief window of use with McAfee's product I'm happy to say that I'm impressed with performance and quite pleased with the product overall. Comparing McAfee and Norton directly I would easily pick the McAfee product and recommend that to friends and family. That isn't to say that Norton's product is bad; I was actually quite happy with Norton, however, I think McAfee has really delivered a good AV product with Total Protection.
